Plant A Tree
Besides being a considerable ally in helping reduce climate change, what benefits do trees provide us personally?
They are a source of many medicines.
We derive many medicines from tree bark, leaves and flowers of different species. These are usually used in herbal medicine, but many compounds in pharmaceutical industries are based on those originally extracted from trees.
They help purify our water and reduce erosion and flooding.
Trees purify water and slow down rain by filtering it with their roots. This process prevents erosion and reduces the risk of saturation and flooding.
They produce the oxygen we breathe.
Trees and forests are often referred to as the "lungs of the planet" for a very simple reason: they produce oxygen. It is estimated that 1 acre of trees can provide the oxygen requirements of 12 people for a year.
Why are we planting trees?
Having the understanding that “Nature has gifted us with plant medicine to nourish and heal our bodies, speak to our spirits and partner with our minds,” we believe that it is of the upmost importance, if not an obligation, to give back and nurture the sources of our health and well-being.
CO2 emissions are a primary contributor to climate change. Trees provide a critical service, balancing oxygen & CO2 levels. With deforestation across the world more CO2 is released into the atmosphere causing devastating effects on our planet. Rising temperatures contribute to rising sea levels, with warmer ocean temperatures threatening wildlife & leading to extinction.
Since our business relies on a healthy earth ecosystem to offer our herbal products, we wanted to find a way to reduce any impact our business may have on climate change. Planting trees is one way to offset the CO2 our business creates.
In a bid to offset our CO2 and to play our part in the reducing the effects of climate change, we’ve partnered with Tree-Nation to support their incredible forestry efforts in four different tree-planting projects globally.
For every order you make a tree will be planted in your name for one of the projects we are supporting below.
Projects We Are Supporting
National Forest Recovery, USA
The mission of the USDA Forest Service is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the Nation's 155 Forests and 20 Grasslands (area of 193 mill. acres) to meet the needs of present and future generations. The project supports the recovery from wildfires and spruce budworm infestation (with tree mortality up to 60-80% in some areas), re-establishes the seed source for future regeneration and improves resilience to future infestation.
Trees for Water, India
The project is located in the Maharashtra state which is suffering from severe droughts in recent years due to seasonal water scarcity, limiting the access to potable water of the most marginalized communities in India. Short periods of heavy rainfall and absence of vegetation are major factors for soil erosion and land degradation. Trees protect against soil erosion and make the soil more permeable, thus improving groundwater availability.
Usambara Biodiversity Conservation, Tanzania
Preserving Biodiversity in the Eastern Arc Mountains rain forest is the primary goal of this project. Additionally, key issues to be addressed are reversing the serious deforestation around Forest Nature Reserve, a critical need for woods and construction materials, the need for environmental conservation education, and extreme poverty alleviation through agroforestry.
Mini-forests in Public Schools São Paulo, Brasil
The Atlantic Forest in Brazil is one of the most endangered and biodiverse biomes in the world. Through environmental education programs, and the creation of Miyawaki miniforests in public schools in Brazil together with local communities, this project will bring the urgency of ecosystem regeneration and climate change mitigation to the new generations! Since 2018, we have already planted thousands trees and we plan to plant 7,000 more in 2022!
About Tree-Nation
Tree-Nation is the reforestation platform which gathers together in one place the largest number of tree planting projects around the world. The organization offers people the possibility to select from over 300 different tree species which can be planted in 70 different reforestation projects located in 4 different continents. In every project, the species are carefully selected according to the specific benefits they bring for the environment and to the local population. Each tree planted on the Tree-Nation platform is assigned its own unique URL, which means the species, the location, the plantation project information and the CO2 compensation values can be tracked throughout the lifetime of the tree.
