Palo Santo, literally meaning “holy wood” in Spanish, is a tree that is widely distributed throughout Central and South America. It is an aromatic wood that creates pleasant scents of mint and citrus, with underlying tones of frankincense Thought to purge bad spirits, it is also said that it enhances creativity and brings good fortune.

Palo Santo is used as incense and smudging in South America in much the same way white sage is used in North America-to combat negative energy and to cleanse one’s space. It has history of use by the Incas in the 16th century to ward off evil spirits and cleanse their physical spaces.

Suggested Use:

Light the Palo Santo within a bowl or vessel, blow out the flame, and invite the smoke medicine to cleanse and purify as you slowly move it around your body.
